You may find when using WordPress that you want only summaries to show or only excerpts. With version 3.0, you will find many the ability to modify when to show a summary or excerpt inside the loop.php file of the theme folder. There are two lines for you to edit to toggle the excerpt versus summary function.
Open loop.php – edit these lines –
Line 103:<?php if ( is_archive() || is_search() ) : // Display excerpts for archives and search. ?>
Line 131:<?php if ( is_archive() || is_search() ) : // Display excerpts for archives and search. ?>
You will see that currently excerpts are displayed for archives and searches. Those two options are called Conditional Tags. You can change those tags, add to them or delete them. There is a whole list of Conditional Tags here. Play around and figure out what works best for your particular website.
If you are only using a single Conditional Tag, make sure to delete the “||”.
